What Is Soursop Tea?
Soursop tea is an herbal drink made from the leaves of the soursop fruit tree. Also known as Graviola tea, it is heralded by many cultures as a superfood with a plethora of health claims. It traces its origins back to North and South America. Now, soursop tea is consumed around the globe. Soursop tea has a fairly mild, musky flavor but can be combined with other ingredients, such as matcha, fruit, or herbal tea blends.
Does Soursop Tea Contain Caffeine?
No - soursop tea is not actually a “tea” in the traditional sense. It is brewed using only certain parts of the soursop plant, which do not contain caffeine. The tea is an excellent choice for people seeking a caffeine-free drink that’s packed with potential health benefits.
What Health Benefits Are Associated With Soursop Tea?
Many rumored benefits can be found by drinking soursop tea, but we’ll touch on a few of them here. Perhaps most the most talked-about benefit of soursop tea is its potential ability to provide some relief to chemotherapy and cancer patients. Unfortunately, there is no overwhelming evidence to support these claims, but many personal testimonies speak to the tea’s positive effects.

Furthermore, many cultures use soursop tea to treat coughs, infections, inflammatory problems, and even parasites such as lice. Within our own family, we use soursop tea to help increase and strengthen our immune health. In addition, Graviola’s naturally occurring compounds, such as its acetogenins, are well-known by many for their immune-boosting properties.
When Should I Drink Soursop Tea?
Most health experts and soursop users will recommend drinking the tea roughly half an hour before your next meal. This is the best way to reap soursop tea’s benefits, which you will likely begin to experience after three weeks of consuming the tea regularly.
Can Soursop Tea Possibly Fight Cancer?
We get asked this big question, and yes - it is possible that Graviola (soursop) can help prevent and/or battle some cancer types. For example, a 2016 study found that Graviola extract was toxic to some breast cancer cell lines. However, it also indicated that regular consumption of the extract increased T cell levels, which are known to kill cancer cells and other damaged cells.
Can Soursop Tea Help People Lose Weight?
Potentially, yes. Soursop tea contains dietary acids, such as linoleic acid, which is known for stimulating metabolisms and helping bodies burn fat for energy. Therefore, many people turn to soursop tea as a natural, healthy supplement for shedding their unwanted pounds.

If you’re trying to lose weight, we highly recommend talking to a doctor about developing a healthy eating and exercise plan, then looking into tools such as soursop tea to help with your efforts.
Why Do Some Use Soursop Tea To Reduce Blood Pressure?
Untreated high blood pressure (hypertension) is extremely dangerous and can increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. Sadly, up to 47% of the adults in America have hypertension, and only about 24% of those have their condition under control.

Soursop tea can be an effective at-home method of treating hypertension, according to a WebMD. Soursop’s potassium level can help the body get rid of excess sodium and ease tension within blood vessel walls. Of course, patients with hypertension should always consult their doctors before beginning their own treatments.
Can Soursop Tea Help With Anxiety?
In some cases, yes, soursop tea may relieve symptoms of stress, anxiety, and perhaps even depression. In addition, its anti-inflammatory properties have been used in many cultures to help calm and soothe patients.
Can Soursop Help Prevent Ulcers From Forming?
According to a 2014 study, yes - it’s possible that soursop has antiulcer properties. The study (conducted on rodents) found that the Graviola protected the stomach’s mucus lining, which then helped prevent damage from painful sores.
Can I Drink Soursop Tea Every Day?
Yes. Most health experts recommend drinking between one-half cup and one cup of soursop tea today, depending on your size, health goals, and habits. We advise customers to start with a small dosage, then work their way up to higher servings.
